Pixel gemstones - Emerald by Arrelline Pixel gemstones - Emerald by Arrelline
I wanted to test my poor skills in pixel art ;)

But acutally I needed gemstones for my Multifarious Zodiac journal and decided to draw them by myself.

:bademoticon: Emerald is stone of Aries, Taurus, Cancer, Libra and Aquarius.
Also emerald is the birthstone of May, it symbolizes creativity and nature.

If you like it, you can download, just don't claim as yourself, because it took me a lot of time and effort to draw :).
And if you download,  please let me know how you are going to use it, I'm curious ;).

You really drew this with a mouse? Wow. I just can't even make do with a mouse alone. I really like this kind of pixel art, as well. And you've really succeeded in making the gem shiny! Great job! :D

Yes, I drew it with mouse. And it was supposed to be pixel art what is drawn with pencil tool only, but I just can't live without transparency, so I drew with brush tool too, so it looks blurry.

Indeed... it's a very good piece for a mouse drawing. But I guess most pixel arts are relatively easy to do with a mouse anyway... not that I would know. I've never done pixel art purposefully... but I will try that out someday! I already have an idea for a picture!
However, I wouldn't say it looks that blurry. It actually looks quite clear to me, even with a brush tool. I mean, even if you can use opacity to alter your mouse drawing, you cannot feel the pressure of your lines, because they will be all the same. You cannot change pressure with a mouse - it's exclusive with a graphics tablet, only. So I guess that if you had made this with a tablet, it would've been much blurrier, so this looks pretty good to me.

I had never drawn in pixel style purposefully too.

But I had to learn some of its rules by own experience. You see, when I make my pictures, there is generally quite small scale, and therefore drawing of little details such as lace, jewellery or face features is actually fairly close to pixel art.

On the whole, pixel art is interesting, however I don't think it suits me personally in its classical form - too small scale. The only reason of why I used it now, is that I wanted to make emoticons of jewels what would be small enough to be used in text (I like to decorate everything ;)).

Well, now you have. And you've done well. :)

Yes, I know. When you enlarge whatever picture you see on the computer, pixels will eventually start to appear. You could say that the whole of the computer screen's visuals consist of tiny pixels. Pixels can be manipulated to create an image. And in your case, you needed to alter the pixels close up to make a picture of yours refined. :meow:

I agree - pixel art is interesting. But no artist sticks to it for too long. It's temporary enjoyment, since the scale is small and you don't get very realistic details. However, I do like your idea of decorating everything. Makes every viewer's mood brighter, I think. ;)
